Mr. Lee Burgess is a native of Pendleton, South Carolina where he attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, a nationally renowned residential arts school. He then later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG). While at UNCG, Mr. Burgess had the fortune to be under the tutelage of Dr. Steven Stusek (former NASA President), Dr. Jennifer Walter, and Dr. Rebecca McLeod. He performed in the university’s premier Wind Ensemble, and Casella Sinfonia while also studying conducting under the internationally renowned, Dr. Kevin Geraldi and Dr. John Locke (past NCMEA President). Mr. Burgess was also heavily involved with the recording studio at UNCG as an Audio Technician and in the UNCG Instrument Repair Shop as a minor repair tech.
Mr. Burgess has performed in musicals as a pit musician in shows like the Wizard of Oz, Grease, and In the Heights. He has also been a finalist in concerto competitions, participated as a performer in the U.S. Navy Band’s International Saxophone Symposium, performed as a featured artist, given national and world premieres, generally has performed across the Southeastern portion of the U.S, and has studied music in Austria and the Czech Republic.
Bands under Mr. Burgess’ baton have experienced successes in the form of “Superior” ratings and high rankings in marching and concert band competitions. Mr. Burgess is a member of NAfME, NAE, and the NCBDA.
In Mr. Burgess' free time he enjoys spending time playing with his dog, Sydney, playing tennis, traveling, and continuing his musical studies.
