Jazz Band
Jazz Band (The Royal Jazz Ensemble) brings together students to explore the diverse sounds of jazz, performing everything from swing and blues to Latin, funk, bebop, and jazz-infused rock. Open to all students, the group welcomes both traditional jazz instruments and those from other backgrounds, helping musicians find their best fit within the ensemble.

The ensemble emphasizes improvisation, jazz theory, and ensemble playing, encouraging creativity and musical expression. In addition to school concerts, the jazz band performs at community and regional events throughout the year. Smaller jazz combos offer further opportunities for students to showcase their talents in more intimate settings.

Meeting during Zero Period, an early morning class that lasts about half the length of a standard block, the Jazz Band is a year-long course spanning both the Fall and Spring semesters. Due to rehearsals beginning before the regular school day, students must be able to provide their own transportation, whether by driving themselves or arranging a ride. Students enrolled in the class commit to a full year of participation, building skills and a strong sense of musical camaraderie over time.
